Most of my students come from single family homes and are at least two levels below grade level in literacy and numeracy. The poverty rate in my community is extremely high and in some households the parents struggle with literacy and numeracy as well. My goal is to provide them with equitable supplies to bridge the gap so that they can compete in a technology based job market, where they already start off behind their peers. I aim to increase literacy by reading and modeling what fluency looks like. This year I would like to add a library to my class with comfortable settings and offer book on my scholars lexile level bringing back the love for getting lost in a good book.
