My amazing 6th-graders are vibrant young adolescents navigating the transition into middle school. They represent a remarkable diversity stemming from varied socioeconomic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds, reflecting the broader public school community. There is a good mix of English Language Learners alongside native speakers, and they bring rich family histories from around the globe, and others whose families have been rooted locally for generations. This mixture leads to a classroom environment filled with diverse perspectives, learning styles, and prior knowledge. While they share the universal tween characteristics of self-awareness, evolving social dynamics, and a mix of enthusiasm and apprehension toward new academic challenges, their individual differences are what make the group unique and dynamic.
