The students at my school are learning what it means to be given restorative justice. They are being trained on how to solve problems and forgive. Our students know that when harm has been done, we need to sit down and discuss it with everyone that is involved.
When students come to my room, they are coming to discuss the conflict, explain who was hurt, and give possible ways to resolve the problem at hand. My peer jury would benefit from certain resources in order to make this happen. We focus on restorative practices as oppose to the traditional strategies we might have grown up with. If given these resources, I really feel like it would help to transform our resolution room into a place where our students feel nurtured, comfortable, and safe. This would help our students understand that we are on their side and we are willing to HELP fix it.
