Our school is a true melting pot of the city. Students choose to attend, and it shows by the type of learners that we get in the classroom. By no means is everyone highly skilled academically, but every child that walks through that doorway truly wants to learn and is willing to do the work that it takes to reach their goals. They interact with teachers and with their peers in a way that I have never seen in school before. There is a wonderful mixture of different subcultures and this climate of acceptance, tolerance and inclusiveness that separates my students and school culture from others places that I've taught in the past. I teach at a relatively small school and the bonds that are formed within those walls are strong. I am constantly amazed at the number of dancers, musicians, actors, artists, singers, and poets that I discover in my classroom as the year evolves. All filled with untapped potential, ready to be supported, pushed, and inspired.
