Be the Best Reader you can be! I am a second grade reading interventionist. Each one of my students has tested to be below grade level in reading. I have over 30 students that meet with me in small groups each day for 40 minutes. We work on phonics, fluency, and strategies. Most of my students are on some type of reduced lunch or free meal plan and have very little support at home. This program is set up to give these children a chance to "catch up" before they fall too far behind. Although the curriculum I use is a scripted program, I try to make it fun by using different manipulatives. For example, we used rubber fingers to point out our words as we read during Halloween. One of the things the children love is to read on the floor with partners or as a group. I have only one bean bag chair which means everyone else reads on the floor.
