As seniors, my students are preparing for college and other post-secondary opportunities. One way we do that in my class is using laptops. Every day my students are doing some type of research and writing in class on the computer. Strong computer skills are crucial for my students' success in all of their post-secondary opportunities. One of the largest components of my class is a Senior Capstone project, where seniors pick a social justice topic of their choosing and write a 1,600-1,800 word research paper on that topic. We spend months doing research, writing, revision, and more writing. The Capstone project ends with a presentation in front of a panel of judges. However, not all of my students are able to come prepared each day with a computer. My school does not have the resources to provide teachers with extra laptops in our classrooms for students that do not have one or even forget to bring it because they maybe not staying at home right now. Having 3 laptops (chrome books) in my classroom will help me ensure that on any given day, every single student is able to engage deeply in their research and writing, regardless of their situation.
