My inner city Kindergartners are curious and smart! They don't hold back excitement when learning something new. These students are eager to learn and to try new things regardless of limited resources. Our school is considered a high need school, but this does not impede my students' positive attitude towards education.
This diverse impoverished community values education as it is seen as a gateway to knowledge and a brighter future. The parents of these students trust me, the teacher, to teach to the best of my ability. This trust comes in part because English is not their first language, but also because it is my duty and my obligation to teach to their children. As an agent of growth, I have made a promise to myself and to my students to teach without limitations. My students already come from impoverished homes so they should not have to walk into impoverished classrooms. They want to learn to read, and I will teach them!
