I am a second grade teacher in Southern California. Most of my students are English Language Learners; their primary language is Spanish. Our school serves a large percentage of minority students from low-income households. My school is a Title 1 school with 100% of the students qualifying for free lunch. Due to the ongoing state and local school district cuts in education our school and PTA does not have much discretionary money to fund school supplies.
