I am a special needs kindergarten teacher. My district is considered a D.I.N.I. school which is an acronym for districts in need of improvement. Every day my students face socio-economic as well as academic barriers. Children in my classroom have an array of disabilities that range from Oppositional Defiance Disorder, Speech disabilities, Mental Retardation, Emotionally Disturbed, Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder as well as Attention Deficit Disorder. My students acquire and retain information differently than other students. They also display difficulties in cooperating and turn taking. With the donation of the supplies I can help students transition from the visual (text and paper) to the concrete through play and game.
