My fourth graders are amazing. They are mature and honest; they surprise me with their brilliance every day; they want to succeed. They LOVE school. My students have grown up in low-income homes; they take care of their little brothers and sisters; they worry, see, and experience things children should not have to. School is often the last thing on their mind at home.
But when they enter their classroom everyday and realize how important their role is there, how much they can learn, and how often they experience success...then they know they can be eager, active learners.
