Reading one book in a book club is great, but inspiring a child to read a series of books is a teachers dream come true. I use book clubs as an opportunity to introduce students to series, authors, and genres that they have not yet read. I love to choose the first book in a series. After we finish the book, every student in the group is anxious to read the next one. Students become highly motivated to read independently and expand their love of reading. We will be holding our book club meetings each Friday. During this time, students will hold discussions with their peers about weekly assigned chapters, write book reports and choose new books.
My goal is to help students develop a love of reading.
