We are a small Rhode Island urban high school with a poverty rate of 97%. Despite being so impoverished, the students create the most amazing artwork and often win national and regional awards for their work. Most of them are Hispanic and come from many different countries around the world. The students are extremely talented and bring diverse cultural experiences and sensitivities to the annual yearbook, which is called "The Souvenir." This book is very special to the students and the yearbook committee works hard throughout the year to produce a book that is full of photographs and memories from the four years spent at our school. To most of our students, school represents the only stable thing in their world- where they can eat and be warm while they learn and enrich their lives. Last year our only working camera finally bit the dust and we were wondering how we could raise money to buy not just one, but several cameras to use for yearbook photographs. We hope you can help us out.
