My students are ESL and low income students who are currently placed in a math, science, technology magnet program. This is a great opportunity for them, but without adequate access to technology, their options are quite limited. Our school is a magnet and we have motivated staff and students, but we receive no additional funding to purchase technology, so our resources are extremely limited. While their peers in class have many options at home (in terms of technology), their access is severely limited. Many of these children face desperate situations at home and worrying about a safe home or where their next meal will come from takes precedence over getting a computer. I want to make their school experience one of equity and access, rather than one of want or need.
