My students live in a community that is not always safe, and I want to give them the opportunity to experience a safe learning environment. My students are excited about learning and about school. They also take great pride in their work and learning. My students attend a school that is in a low income area and resources are very limited. Our student population is also very transient.
We as teachers are trying to give them continuity and structure in their day to day learning environment. Our school is often vandalized by the local gangs that surround the school. We try to shield our students from the negative influences that surround our neighborhood.
