I have 18 students in 1st through 5th grade. The majority, 12, of my students have Autism. The other students have either sensory processing disorder, emotional behavior disorder, anxiety disorder or ADHD. All of my students struggle with social emotional learning and due to their behavior, need extra support during most of their school day. While the majority of my students work above grade level in reading and math, they struggle greatly with writing, due to the communication aspect and their common struggles with fine motor. Additionally, most of my students have problems with executive functioning and struggle with emotional control and task initiation. Finally, due to struggles with social skills, most of my students need positive reinforcement throughout the day to be successful in their general education class. My school is incredibly inclusive and my students are true members of their class. The teachers are supportive of finding creative ways to teach our students.
