What a NOVEL idea! IF STUDENTS CANNOT READ...ARE WE REALLY MEETING THEIR NEEDS? I am a fourth grade teacher at a brand spanking new public elementary school. I team teach Literacy and Social Studies to 57 excitable nine and ten year old students (75% of whom are not reading on the appropriate level). I am working with families of various socioeconomic backgrounds. More than 50% of our students receive free or reduced lunch, but since we are a new school, we- at this time- do not fall under any classification that would allow us to receive extra funds for supplementary reading materials.
