This is a very diverse population consisting of Hispanics, Asians, African Americans, Caucasians, and others. About 90% of our students come from a low socioeconomic background. Most of them receive free or reduced rate lunch. We are a Title I school and was awarded for 2016 California Gold Ribbon Award.
Even though our school is making improvements and progress, we still have a long way to closing the achievement gap. Many of our students come from homes that have many challenges and not enough resources to help them reach their highest potentials and goals. They often do not have materials to complete their school work or to increase their knowledge in a concept. In addition, they do not have people or appropriate resources who can demonstrate to them ways to become a successful student. Furthermore, many of our students are ELs and need extra materials for intervention/remediation.
