My class is a wonderful mix of races and cultures from typical rural town families, migrant families and no collar families. Many have come from broken homes or travel with the harvesting opportunities, while relying on free and reduced breakfast/lunch to feed their children.
My school is a Title I school, and has been hit pretty hard by the budget cuts over the last 5 years. Our ESOL department is overwhelmed and limited to only 2 employees to meet the demands of the entire school. English speaking skills, as well as little to no vocabulary enrichment, is a huge liability to any student's educational foundation. In order to succeed, all of these students need vocabulary enrichment through sight, sound, repetition, and application.
