I teach in a unique "two way bilingual" program. I have two first grade classes, and teach each class in English for a week at a time. The class that is not with me is learning the same material in the classroom next door to mine, but in Spanish. My nearly 60 first graders are amazingly adaptable and hardworking and rise to the challenge. They live in a city and attend a large, urban school where the teachers genuinely care about the well-being of the students. In general, they love to come to school. My students are learning to read and write in two languages and spend a large part of their day reading books at their level. Because so many students share the books, I would love to have sturdy plastic book boxes for each student to store their "good fit" books in. These boxes will give students their own place to store books and help protect our books and extend their lifetime.
