The speech therapy program at Thornton expanded this school year (2023-2024) to accommodate the new inclusion of 6th graders. We work on communication skills ranging from speech articulation, speech fluency, expressive and receptive language, and social communication.
Students present with challenges with communication and learn in small groups, receiving scaffolded, individualized instruction in their respective areas of need. Materials used are typically high-interest, age-appropriate, and diverse-learner-supported such as arts/crafts, podcasts, creative writing, role-playing, discussing animated shorts, and game-based activities.
