Let me start by saying... they are amazing little people! Each student brings a uniqueness to our classroom and we all seem to work cohesively in our small corner of the building. I work with very challenging students in the sense that they have not been provided with many opportunities yet in life. Many of them live in extreme poverty with uneducated or incarcerated parents. Unfortunately, they have not been exposed to the everyday social skills and personal care that many of us have. They lack those basic skills to care for themselves and their property, thus being unorganized in the classroom as well. Most of my students work well below their current grade level especially in reading. Any opportunity that I have to enrich their lives and teach them life skills, like caring for their belongings, being organized, and a love of reading, I take. I work hard for their overall well being while they are in my room and when I send them home each day.
