I teach in a very low social-economic area in central Mississippi. My students are 100% free and reduced lunch. The school building is over 100 years old. It is located right in the middle of the community. Most of my students walk to school. Many of them have never left their community. They are hard workers. Right now they are struggling because they are not grasping the concepts and skills because they feel that the skills have no meaning and they are not interested in learning them.
