My students are truly amazing. They work their hardest each and every day. My classroom is a warm, welcoming, and fun place to be. I serve students with multiple disabilities (Autism Spectrum Disorders, Severe Cognitive Impairments, and Emotional Disabilities) in a moderate to low income school.
Everyday is a new adventure! My students all have different needs and different learning styles. Some are verbal, some are not. Some can write, some can not. Each student works at his own pace and on skills specific to his needs. Planning and executing the many curriculum needs of a special day class is intense, especially with the limited materials available to me.
My biggest challenge is keeping each of my students engaged in relevant learning while I am working with an individual student. This task is difficult for any teacher, but it becomes daunting when working with students striving to overcome disabilities.
