6th graders need to engage in literature personally, connecting with characters and experiences. The novel Black Brother, Black Brother will give my students that connection and encourage real conversations inspired by their own life experiences.
I will utilize the novel during my reading instruction and writing workshop. We will discuss questions and different topics together and a partner, incorporating activities and historical studies in Social Studies. My students will use this novel as a gateway to deeper understanding and conversations about social justice and the role of race in our society.
