My students are leaning to better themselves when many previous teachers may have given up on them or overlooked them, allowing many of them to slip through the cracks in our system. My classroom is filling the gaps in education of low income families and helping prepare them for life.
Collaboration and metacognition reflection creates an environment where helping others helps themselves. Finding a balance between team cooperation and goal oriented lesson plans push my students to help each other and as they grow their math skills. As my students get closer to their goals their belief that they can actually do math increases exponentially. Many of my students have very little time and experience with calculators and application. If anything they have relied on others to do the work for them. I am inspiring my students to be leaders.
These 60 TI-30 calculators will require my students to put their own skill to the test. They will not be able to rely on the efforts of others to skate them along any longer but force them to perform the computations themselves.
