Representation matters. Many books on the market leave out strong characters with disabilities. These books will be used as a school library to represent our students with disabilities in texts that we use in our classrooms every day. Our children need to see other children with disabilities represented in a way where their differences are seen as strengths and where inclusion is the focus. Feeling included is so important for mental health and positive personal development. I want my students to see themselves represented in ways outside of our classroom.
