My students attend a public elementary school in Southern California. There are 35 curious, motivated, enthusiastic, energetic and high achieving students in this class. Even though it is a 4th and 5th grade combination class and there are a lot of them, they are enjoyable to work with everyday.
At our school, not many students get an opportunity to join orchestra where they get a chance to learn how to play musical instruments. Due to limited number of musical instruments that the school can provide, only THREE beginning students are selected from each class. Because of this reason, a lot of my students who are interested in joining the orchestra get turned down every year. It is very discouraging for them because they would have to wait another year to get chosen to be in the orchestra.
So, I want to give those students who didn't get chosen to be in the orchestra a chance to learn a baroque style recorder. It's nothing fancy but I think they will enjoy learning how to play it.
