My students are the reason I love my job. Even though many of them deal with home and life situations that would leave many people crying in a corner, they manage to come to school every day and try their best. Some of my teenage students are parents, some don't know where their next meal is coming from. Some are sweet and loud, some are quiet and withdrawn. But all of them are trying their best to create amazing possibilities in the world. They amaze me (and sometimes themselves) with the depth of thought they possess, and it makes my heart ache when I see that their zip code forces them to attend a school that cannot provide them an education that is equal to a more affluent neighborhood's. We, against the odds, have been able to raise our test scores year after year. We have graduated more students than many in our district. We have been able to send more kids to college than better off schools. IN SPITE OF our distinct financial disadvantages, we will continue to persevere.
