I am a special education teacher. I teach 6th, 7th and 8th graders with specific learning disabilities in a special day classroom. My students hate reading because it is extremely hard for them. Ninety-five percent of the students I teach come from homes with poverty-level incomes. The homes of my students lack reading material and there is little encouragement to read at home.
