Our school is located in California, with about 340 students in attendance. We are fortunate to have a variety of ethnicities, socio-economic levels, learning abilities and styles. Our parents are active participants in their child's learning, assisting with school activities, classroom projects, and extending curricular conversations outside of the classroom. There are 31 fourth graders in my class, 15 boys and 16 girls. They are lively, talkative, and academically engaging - blossoming into a community of supportive learners. Already, they have demonstrated sustained academic curiosity around the biology unit-taking responsibility for classroom pets, an outside garden, and planted terrariums. They work beyond the classroom and regular day - volunteering with the Kindergarten special-needs class, teaming up with 2nd grade science buddies to share learning, and staying for after-school homework club. The limited classroom technology (4 dated desktops) can't keep up with them!
