My students attend a suburban elementary school in Southern California that serves children from kindergarten through fifth grade. We have about 470 students and an API of 900 the last year they were calculated. Although our students do well academically, because we are not a Title 1 school, our school struggles to find the funds to support our students' needs each year. The school has depended on raising funds themselves and on many occasions the teachers have often used their own money to get what they need for their students. With our current economic situation, each year it gets harder and harder. Although our students work hard, it seems instead of being rewarded for their hard work, it is the students who I see suffer. My 2nd grade students shouldn't have to suffer. They are bright, energetic students who have a thirst for learning, and a passion for reading.
