"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." - Dr. Seuss
At my school we are actively building upon and fostering a culture of reading and literacy. School-wide, our students are increasingly avid readers who enjoy delving in to a good book and it is my job and my passion to keep this fire lit inside of them.
I have been a part of this literacy push for over the past five years as a 4th and 5th grade teacher. For the 2017-2018 year, and likely beyond, I will be taking on a new role as a 2nd grade teacher. I will need a new library of books that target my second graders' independent reading levels. By providing them with books at their independent reading levels, I will be allowing my students to access texts and experience the joy of reading daily.
For this reason, I am requesting a modest classroom library that will target lower literacy levels appropriate for second grade. This summer I will be scouring book store sales and used book stores in the area to build my library, but having a brand new, core set of books to start the year will make a world of difference.
