My students are mainly Black and Hispanic. I teach them 8th grade Math and by the time they come to me, they either love math, hate math or they just do it. I try to help them develop a love or liking for math and definitely a curiosity about why things work the way they just seem to do in Math; is it really that magical of a subject.
During the school year as we progress through some tough algebra and geometry concepts, I see kids becoming more interested in their learning and really taking the initiative as they get ready for high school.
We are a public school serving an urban population; preparing tomorrow's thinkers.
