In an Illinois public school (grades K-5) with a minority population, out of 360 students, 122 auditioned for band, 91 auditioned for choir, and nearly 90% expressed interest in piano lessons. Due to limitations in space and resources, we could not accept them all. However, the overwhelming interest in music programs made us realize that we need to do more to give students opportunities to learn about and experience music.
About my class
