Most of my students are in such high poverty that they get free lunches and have little or no material possessions. Most of them come from single parent households where the parent is living off welfare. Often times, the school breakfast and lunch is the only food the students have for the day. Our building is over 100 years old, and has paint chips falling from the ceiling and dropping on the students' desks.
