Fluency is a lifelong skill that all students need. It is essential in order for students to comprehend what they are reading. If students are able to read fluently, they will be no longer need to concentrate on each word as a single unit but instead will be able to concentrate on what the whole passage is about.
By using audio recorders, students will eventually be able to hear their "robot" voices disappear and their own voices emerge. Students in my class will be able to continuously practice and then listen to themselves read passages. My students will also be able to see their progress by calculating their words per minute with each passage.
By having audio recorders in my classroom, students will be able to practice their fluency at least 3 times a week and as a teacher, I can easily share the recordings with their parents or guardians so they too can share in their child's progress.
