My student's love interventions, but they have no headphones to help them focus. Their basic math skills are lacking, but we are working very hard on using games and other interventions to help them learn.
My students are from a Title 1 School with very high poverty (over 90% free and reduced lunch), and many come from broken families or parents with criminal backgrounds. They do not have a lot of previous knowledge as there is little to no parental support at home. Some students have their only meals at school as their parents have no food or money to feed them at home.
Many of these students have not had the good fortune of being supported in their goals or dreams. They suffer from low self esteem and often it is so much easier to just say "I can't". Or perhaps they haven't been taught I CAN! And WE CAN!
Some of the students struggle more than others to achieve their goals in learning. interventions are necessary to assist these students with reading and math achievement.
