This bunch of fourth graders are enthusiastic storytellers. In the first six weeks of school we have written lots of drama, true crime(!), and adventure. They beg to write for longer and longer stretches of time— and they crave opportunities to share their stories.
To celebrate our writing, we have a coffee house every few months, and it’s a joyful experience of sharing and listening to each other. Parents and grandparents join us as our room is filled with the scent of hot cocoa and cookies. The lights go down... and the magic begins.
The only catch is that it is difficult to hear our shy readers. So, even though they are brave enough to sit up front and read their story, they can't quite speak loudly enough for all to hear. A portable sound system will help us avoid this problem.
