My students attend a public school that has over six hundred students enrolled in grades Pre-Kindergarten through sixth. At my school, ninety-two percent of the students qualify for Title I funding from the federal lunch program allowing all students to receive free breakfast and lunch. My students face many challenges due to several underlying factors. Our school is located in the middle of an urban neighborhood affected by rivaling gang activity. The continual presence of gang influence, crime, and the low socio-economic conditions of our neighborhood all contribute to the many challenges that my students face daily.
