The majority of my students live in a low-income area that surrounds a middle class neighborhood in California. We have one of the most diverse student populations economically, ethnically, racially and linguistically. My students are energetic, creative and eager-to-learn 7th and 8th graders. Many come from homes filled with anxiety over loss of job, illness, hunger, and fear. Many are required to deal with these problems along with their learning disabilities.
