I am lucky to work in a great community in rural Central Oregon. For such a small town, we have great diversity but we also have high levels of poverty. Many of my students struggle with getting some of the basic school supplies. My students are excited about learning but also face difficulties in their personal lives that are often out of their control. Many of our families have never had anyone close to them get the chance to go to college but the mindset of many of the students is starting to change. Kids are believing they can ask for more for themselves and expect to be able to go and earn it. Our school is bright, colorful, and welcoming. The staff truly enjoys each other and we all work to make it a happy and healthy place for students. The school halls are lined with student work and even the ceiling tiles have been painted throughout the years by students. Many of the tiles have been painted to match the covers of students' favorite books.
