My students are bright and energetic individuals who are still developing their literacy backgrounds. Many are unmotivated to read independently and lack the resources to buy new books. My students represent a wide range of reading levels, from beginning to intermediate. Many don't identify themselves as readers so, they have difficulty finding a book that is just right for them. In class, students often self select books that are too easy or too challenging for their needs. They seek humor and adventure in stories but often give up on a book when the demands of reading are higher than their ability.
