My students are 3rd graders that come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Most of them do not have access to the internet at home. The computer I have in the classroom is so obsolete they can't access sites with animation platforms, or expanded formatting, or use up-to-date software. This not only makes it difficult to assign research projects, but it widens the achievement gap for my students as they do not have access to the same technology tools that their peers in most affluent neighborhoods have. Most of my students are English language learners, for whom the opportunity to access core content through technology is essential as established by recent research in second language acquisition.
