All of the students in my class are English language learners who qualify for free lunch. The majority come from homes where parents are only minimally able to assist them academically either due to the lack of time or because they were not educated in this country. Some stay on the school playground until it closes at 6:00 pm while others spend several hours each day playing video games or watching television. Our school recently purchased both a reading and a math program that students can access on-line from home but only a handful of my students have access to the Internet at home.
