My students will use Chromebooks to expand on our reading and writing curriculum to help bring the topics to life and foster curiosity in learning. In our reading and writing intervention class, students learn how to read carefully to find the main idea, identify details, develop vocabulary and build writing skills by moving through a developed curriculum covering a variety of topics. Many of my students do not have access to computers or Internet at home and are unable to participate in further discovery of the topics that interest them.
Having Chromebooks in our classroom will help my students become more curious learners, allowing them to develop research projects, presentations, and write stories. These projects will help them build not only their reading and writing skills, but also sense of confidence and being part of a community of learners. It will also help them learn to work as members of a team, helping peers through reflection, editing, and publishing work. I am most excited to give them the opportunity to engage in more hands-on learning, developing interactive assignments and projects that encourage participation and development of 21st century skills.
