I teach fifth grade students in a Title One elementary school. My school is growing in population and diversity. Parents are struggling to pay the bills and spending their 'free' time working extra jobs which limits time spent with their children on homework or discussing events of the day. Students now more than ever need encouragement to focus on their academics and motivation to set goals.
I live in a wonderful area where community members are glad to support teachers and students. They are often found mentoring students, helping with hearing or vision testing, judging science fairs, attending fundraisers, and filling a variety of other roles. They offer much needed encouragement to teachers and students.
