I have seen in my students the awakening of their creative potential and desire to take pride in their work as young artists. Students felt the impact that having their artwork displayed at our school had on their self-esteem and the positive change in the school atmosphere. I want to give my students an even better museum quality art show by expanding the display of artwork. My school is in the heart of a neighborhood of working class people from all over the world in an urban city school district. Many of our students speak or are learning English as a second language. Our school has a high population of students who receive free and reduced lunch and stay in our before and after school care programs. I have the privilege of teaching art to students in grades K-5. My students inspire me every day and I want them to know that through their artwork they can inspire others and empower themselves.
