I teach in a low income area and I purchase all of my own materials. The community is not focused on education, making my job even more difficult.
Our school was certified as an AVID school this year. We are the only certified AVID elementary school in our district. Even at the Kindergarten level, we teach our students the importance of organization, academic tools and strategies, college and career readiness. We teach our students to be responsible, respectful and safe at all times.
My Kindergartners love to be active. They are busy and full of energy. When you walk into my classroom you will see a classroom of thinkers. My goal is to get my students to work independently as they work through Kindergarten standards. I challenge them to explain their thinking and to see different ways to solve problems.
