My high school students live in a high poverty, high crime neighborhood. Education is not always the top priority in their life, as many of them have serious family, economic, and emotional problems. Art inspires them, and helps get them through the day. My students take pride in their work and have fun in my class. I try to let them be themselves, and express themselves, while learning and completing their work. My classroom is a place where they can safely express themselves. I like to believe we are sort of like an alternative family.
