I work with a group of 23 wonderful first graders at a school located in South Central Los Angeles. Twelve of my students are English Language Learners and all of my students are Latino and African American. Over 97% of our families qualify for free or reduced lunch. My students bring a wealth of talent and insight of the world from the lens of first grade eyes. I would like them to channel these talents into creating their own stories where they develop the characters, setting, plot, illustrations, and the overall look of a book.
